0,2%. That’s how many viewers got to see the rarest ending of Obsidian Entertainment’s latest game!
Avowed has its secrets (presumably not to the extent of Baldur’s Gate 3 – one was mentioned in the news earlier today), and so does this ending, in which we leave the game’s territory in a less than glorious state, and our comrades hate us all. We should mention here that spoilers follow, so we recommend you read on at your own risk…
During Avowed, the developers hinted at the possibility of Kreia joining forces with Lanius Legatus’ Lodwyn and her fanatical Steel Garrote paladins. As with the other Avowed endings, the Steel Garrote ending doesn’t prevent us from making important choices, but things aren’t exactly in our favor if we haven’t been ideologically consistent. If we haven’t consistently made decisions that Lödwyn approves of, then allying with other factions will result in a “traitor’s reward” that will hit us before we see the credits. She cuts off our heads and then gives us a summary of the final slide show. Without us, she will take control of the continent.
How do we side with Lödwyn so we don’t die? If we can, we get the Tyranny achievement. That’s something only 0.2% of Steam users have achieved! At each major branching point in the main story, you will have to make the most pro-Aedyr, pro-Loedwyn, or anti-Sapadal choices. The specific key choices are: kill Ygwulf in Paradise, let the steel garrote burn Fior, let Kostya destroy Solace Keep, then kill Sapadal in the Garden. If we win Lödwyn’s approval with these choices before siding with Steel Garrote, she will knight us at the end of the game. In return, all of our companions will abandon us because of our choices. Löwdyn’s vision of the Living Lands is revealed in the slideshow.
It’s a pretty harsh ending, but it’s good to see that the story of Avowed can end this way…
