The long-rumored God of War remaster collection might finally be announced, and fans are already losing their minds.
This year marks two decades since Santa Monica Studio first introduced God of War on the PlayStation 2. Even though gaming has evolved massively since 2005, the original remains a beloved classic, still accessible today through PlayStation Plus Premium.
Over the years, the God of War franchise has become one of PlayStation’s most powerful brands. The series reached new heights with its critically acclaimed 2018 reboot, which introduced a mature, narrative-driven take on Kratos and set a new bar for action-adventure storytelling.
Following that massive success, God of War Ragnarök (2022) arrived, building on the foundations laid by its predecessor. While neither Sony nor Santa Monica Studio has officially confirmed a third Norse-inspired installment, speculation is running wild.
Meanwhile, rumors suggest that Sony is gearing up to celebrate the series’ 20th anniversary in style—with a highly anticipated remaster collection.
This wouldn’t be the first time Kratos’ past adventures have been reworked for modern platforms. Previous remasters have made their way to the PSP, PS Vita, PS3, and PS4, giving players multiple chances to relive the action.
Of course, it’s always wise to take rumors with a grain of salt. There’s no official confirmation regarding which games might be included in this collection or whether it will arrive as a single package or multiple releases.
However, according to gaming industry insider Jeff Grubb, fans might not have to wait long for answers. He believes that an announcement could come as soon as next month during a special 20th-anniversary showcase. Naturally, that has sent anticipation through the roof.
“Sony needs to go all out, like what they did with Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection,” said Reddit user MrBeyonde. “A pack with all the 2005-2013 titles would be a dream.”
“I’d rather have a remake, but I’m betting it’s just a remaster,” replied DarkDaniel_01.
“After they announced the Days Gone remaster, I totally believe this could happen,” added Healthy-Career7226.
While excitement is at an all-time high, some fans joked that Sony might just re-release the 2018 game instead. Hopefully, they wouldn’t pull a move like that… right?
Whenever Sony and Santa Monica Studio decide to spill the details, we’ll keep you posted.
