MOVIE NEWS – The 97th Academy Awards red carpet witnessed an unexpected yet unforgettable moment when Halle Berry spontaneously locked lips with Adrien Brody—right in front of his girlfriend, Georgina Chapman! The surprise kiss, which seemed like something straight out of a Hollywood script, was warmly received by Brody, who was heard telling Berry, “I love you.”
This wasn’t the first time these two shared such a moment. Berry’s bold move was actually a throwback to the 2003 Oscars, when Brody won his first Academy Award for Best Actor in The Pianist. That night, a euphoric Brody took the stage and, in a completely unscripted move, swept Berry into his arms and kissed her passionately, leaving the entire audience stunned.
What could have been an awkward or cringeworthy moment instead became one of the most talked-about Oscars moments in history, largely due to Berry’s genuinely surprised yet charmed reaction. Just a year prior, Berry had won her own Oscar for Best Actress in Monster’s Ball, and she understood firsthand the overwhelming emotions that come with such a career-defining moment. However, unlike Brody, she simply embraced her presenter, Russell Crowe, in a heartfelt hug instead of going in for a kiss.
Adrien Brody’s Girlfriend Had No Complaints
Though Brody’s Oscar win for The Brutalist was a major milestone, the red carpet kiss arguably stole the spotlight. However, there was no drama to be had—his longtime partner, Georgina Chapman, took it all in stride and even cheered on the moment. Speaking to Extra TV, she humorously remarked:
“How could anyone deny a man a kiss from Halle Berry?”
When asked further about the playful moment, Chapman laughed and added that her boyfriend was “more than fine with it.” In fact, Extra TV’s footage showed her clapping along as the kiss unfolded. As it turns out, Berry had been waiting for decades to return the favor, as she jokingly confessed in an interview:
“I’ve been waiting 21 years to get him back on a red carpet and finally plant one on him.”
While the Oscars kiss made headlines, Brody’s acceptance speech was also a talking point, as he took his time to thank everyone involved in his career. But more importantly, his film, The Brutalist, is now available on various streaming platforms, including Fandango at Home (formerly Vudu). Fans eager to own a copy can also preorder the physical release, which officially drops on March 25.
