According to Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment, the events of the highly successful game will not be a one-off, but will return later.
The game has performed very well both critically and commercially. It’s also fun to play cooperatively, and since launch Saber Interactive has added new maps, enemies, cosmetic items, and armor to the game, while constantly tweaking the balance. The Absolute difficulty level has arrived, and the developers have also tweaked the perks. However, the public was not entirely happy with the frequent events and season pass, and worried that a full-priced single-player game would secretly turn into a live service title…
“We have noticed that the Community Events have received some cold feedback since we introduced them as an additional way to unlock cosmetic items. We have seen many of you mention the FOMO created by the events. Rest assured, we are not looking to turn Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 into a full live service game. The items available through events WILL be available later, to everyone. We want Community Events to be a way for the most dedicated players to unlock items in advance, not a source of frustration and stress for everyone. We need to provide a smooth experience for unlocking these items, which has not been the case. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience and are currently working on a simplified process for unlocking the items to make the experience less restrictive,” Saber and Focus wrote on Steam.

Fans on Reddit say it’s not a live service, but very often they use the typical terms (season, roadmap), while treating skins as events and putting some behind a subscription. That’s why one Redditor thinks they don’t call it a live service, so the public doesn’t bother the developers to release content faster. Another user says it’s confusing because a live service title is constantly being expanded and releasing content that can only be bought for real money, and Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 falls into that definition…
Opinions are quite divided.
