MOVIE NEWS – After bidding farewell to his legendary role in the John Wick series, Keanu Reeves is gearing up for his next action-packed adventure. Drawing from his own creative vision, Reeves is partnering with Netflix to bring BRZRKR to life—an intense graphic novel centered around an immortal warrior. With a powerhouse team now assembled, this project is shaping up to be a must-watch for action fans.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, veteran Fast & Furious director Justin Lin has been tapped to helm Netflix’s live-action adaptation of BRZRKR, starring Reeves himself. Lin and Reeves have previously worked together, with the actor financially backing Lin’s latest project, Last Days. Meanwhile, The Batman Part II co-writer Mattson Tomlin has penned the script, based on the best-selling comic series from BOOM! Studios. Netflix has released the official synopsis:
“BRZRKR tells the savage, sprawling tale of an immortal warrior who has battled across 80,000 years of history. Known only as ‘B,’ he is half-mortal, half-god, cursed to a life of endless bloodshed and destruction—even at the cost of his own sanity. But after centuries of wandering the Earth, B might have finally found his purpose: working for the U.S. government, taking on the missions too brutal and dangerous for anyone else. In return, he seeks the one thing he has always longed for—the truth about his existence, and how to finally end it.”
Originally published as a 12-issue limited series in 2021, BRZRKR was co-written by Reeves and Matt Kindt, with Ron Garney providing the artwork. Having made his mark with the John Wick franchise and the upcoming Ballerina spin-off starring Ana de Armas, Reeves is now looking to turn his own passion project into a multi-platform powerhouse. The action-packed world of BRZRKR isn’t stopping at just one adaptation.
A Bigger Universe on the Horizon
Beyond the live-action film, Netflix is also developing an animated BRZRKR series, with Reeves expected to reprise his role as B. While details are still scarce, we do know that Mattson Tomlin will serve as the showrunner, ensuring continuity between the film and the anime series. Tomlin, who previously worked on Netflix’s well-received Terminator Zero, will take the reins of this new project, which has already been greenlit for a two-season run.
As for the movie adaptation, Reeves has made it clear that he’s pushing for an intense, hard-hitting R-rated film that won’t be a frame-by-frame recreation of the comics, but rather an expansion of its world.
“Netflix has been really supportive. They’re allowing us to make an R-rated film, which is great. My goal is not just to translate the comic into a movie but to take the core of the story and build upon it in new, unexpected ways.”
