MOVIE NEWS – As his latest film, The Monkey, based on Stephen King’s short story, continues to gain momentum, Osgood “Oz” Perkins hasn’t held back on sharing his candid opinions. The director recently took part in a quick Q&A session with fans eager to learn more about his career and unique approach to horror. But as always with open discussions, there’s room for unexpected curveballs—like the question of whether Perkins would ever consider directing a James Bond movie.
During a Reddit AMA, Perkins fielded a variety of questions about his career, inspirations, and… James Bond? A user named jokermobile333 asked him: “Would you be open to directing a Bond movie or even a trilogy? And if so, who would be your ideal Bond?” Perkins, however, had no interest in discussing casting because his response was as blunt as it gets:
“No, because f*ck Jeff Bezos.”
Perkins clearly shares the same sentiment as many Bond fans who weren’t exactly thrilled when Amazon MGM Studios took over the rights to the legendary secret agent. The acquisition wasn’t cheap, but Amazon’s mastermind, Jeff Bezos, went all in to secure one of the most iconic film franchises of all time. Mere hours after the deal was finalized, Bezos himself stirred up the conversation by asking the most important question on social media: “Who would you pick as the next James Bond?”
Hollywood and Bond Fans Are Worried
The director of Longlegs, The Blackcoat’s Daughter, and I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House has now joined the ranks of millions of James Bond fans who were stunned by the news. For decades, the Bond franchise was carefully managed by Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who kept Ian Fleming’s iconic character in safe hands. But now that Amazon MGM Studios has full creative control, many are bracing for a drastic shift—one that could lead to a wave of unnecessary spin-offs and drastic tonal changes.
Osgood Perkins Shares More Behind-the-Scenes Insights
After his candid thoughts on Bond, Perkins also opened up about his own movies, sharing a list of his favorite shots from his films:
He also made it clear that Nicolas Cage’s eerie singing in Longlegs was entirely the actor’s choice: “The script just said ‘he sings…’ and then I had one of the greatest movie stars of all time do whatever he wanted.” When asked about his cinematic influences, Perkins rattled off a list of icons and masterpieces, including Stanley Kubrick, Saul Bass, Shelley Duvall, David Lynch, Vertigo, Goodfellas, and Moonlight, among others.
