MOVIE NEWS – Audiences are set to revisit the brutal world of John Wick in this year’s highly anticipated spin-off, Ballerina. The action-packed trailer for the upcoming thriller has finally arrived. From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is slated to hit theaters on June 6, 2025, starring No Time to Die and Knives Out actress Ana de Armas as a deadly assassin seeking revenge.
Directed by Len Wiseman, best known for his work on the Underworld franchise, Total Recall, and Live Free or Die Hard, Ballerina is co-written by Wiseman alongside Shay Hatten and Emerald Fennell. The story takes place between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, following elite assassin Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) as she hunts down those responsible for her family’s murder.
Oscar nominee Ana de Armas leads the film, and she won’t be alone—Keanu Reeves returns as John Wick himself. The film also brings back Ian McShane and Anjelica Huston in their established roles, and it marks the final on-screen appearance of the late, great Lance Reddick as Charon. The cast also includes Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects, Hereditary), Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Dune), and Catalina Sandino Moreno (From, Maria Full of Grace). Alongside the trailer release, the official synopsis has been revealed:
“Set during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Ballerina follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) as she begins her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma.”
More ‘John Wick’ Spin-Offs and a Sequel Are on the Way
Ballerina is just the beginning of a much larger expansion of the John Wick universe. One of the most intriguing projects in development is the upcoming Caine movie, which will see Donnie Yen return as the blind assassin introduced in John Wick: Chapter 4. The spin-off will explore what happens next after Caine is freed from his obligations to the High Table. While details remain scarce, Yen has expressed interest in directing and starring in the film.
“I think both the fans and the studio want this to happen, and we’ll see. I don’t know, Steve. That’s all I can say for now. But yes, we are in discussions—serious discussions. We’ll see where it goes.”
The John Wick franchise has grown into one of the most successful action sagas in modern cinema. While John Wick: Chapter 4 appeared to wrap up the story, and Keanu Reeves suggested there might not be another sequel, Jenefer Brown, EVP and Head of Global Products & Experiences at Lionsgate, has now confirmed that John Wick: Chapter 5 is officially in development.
“This universe continues to expand in incredible ways. Up next, of course, we have Ballerina, which is our first spin-off film, and we can’t wait to share it with the world. And yes, we’ve also announced that John Wick: Chapter 5 is in the works. I believe there will be more spin-offs, a TV series, and even a video game in the future.”
