The Microsoft blog post shows an image that leads us to conclude that they have made a deal with Gabe Newell’s company…The Xbox user interface may change significantly in the future, as the system could later display Steam games installed on PCs, if we are to believe the image on Microsoft’s blog, which Microsoft later removed, but this time too late, as The Verge also reported on the blog post.
It’s called “Opening a Billion Doors With Xbox.” It highlights the changes in the gaming industry and how users now tend to engage with games across multiple devices, and then goes on to discuss how the Xbox user interface might change in the future to accommodate this trend. What’s interesting about the new interface is the prominent Steam logo that will be visible on all devices, including TVs, tablets, and handheld PCs.
According to Namteen’s sources, Microsoft is working on an Xbox app update that would show all games installed on PCs, and not only Steam, but also the Epic Games Store and other digital stores could be considered. However, development is still in the early stages and this could change, as it is not certain that all of our installed PC games will be available through the interface.Meanwhile, Microsoft is also working on the next generation of the Xbox. We’ve written before that a successor to the Xbox Series X is in the pipeline, as well as a handheld PC that could be codenamed Kennan, manufactured by Asus, running Windows, and focused on the Microsoft Store and PC Game Pass.
So in theory it should be able to support games from other PC stores, so that’s where this new UI could come from.
But it’s not official yet… but Microsoft might be quietly hinting at what it’s up to.
