Assassin’s Creed Shadows: The Initial Results Don’t Look Bad!

Ubisoft is already celebrating a round number that could determine the future of the French publisher after a series of recent failures.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has reached an important milestone in terms of players on its first day, the company led by Yves Guillemot wrote on Twitter. Within hours of the game’s release, Ubisoft announced that the story of Naoe and Yasuke, set in feudal Japan, had reached more than 1 million players. Of course, there’s a slight twist in the story here as well…

Ubisoft didn’t specify the percentage of people who bought Assassin’s Creed Shadows at full price or those who got access to the latest installment of the franchise via the Ubisoft+ subscription. Either way, it’s an excellent result, and given that more people tend to play games (whether on PC or console) over the weekend, this figure could be even better on Monday.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows doesn’t really try to push the boundaries of the open world RPG formula created by one of the previous installments, Assassin’s Creed Origins, but it’s still a very good part of the series. Despite its often inaccurate recreation of feudal Japan, it tries to bring stealth gameplay back into the limelight, but in doing so it doesn’t abandon the combat-centric approach seen in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, so it manages to offer a surprisingly varied experience, and let’s not forget that the game has two main characters with two different experiences (Naoe is stronger in stealth, and Yasuke is better in combat).

The game’s story is quite well paced, and it’s also a plus that it doesn’t hang around for too long, because it doesn’t overdo it. It’s still pretty massive in terms of content, but at least we don’t get a completely empty open world, which is something that has affected several Ubisoft games in the last decade or so.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows was released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC.
