Now that The Chinese Room has been rated by a major ratings board, we may not have to wait much longer for its release.
Bloodlines 2 was first announced for March 2019. It was developed by Hardsuit Labs, previously known for Blacklight: Retribution. The team successfully pitched a concept for a sequel to the IP’s owner, Paradox Interactive. The wait shouldn’t have been long, as the game was originally set for early 2020, and with the involvement of original writer Brian Mitsoda, the hype was pretty high…
Then the game was pushed back to 2021, and a few months later Mitsoda left the team. In February 2021, Paradox announced that it had lost faith in Hardsuit’s ability to deliver a decent product, and the developer was replaced. Later that year, Paradox’s CEO revealed that the game was on the verge of cancellation, but another studio successfully pitched his concept, but we had to wait two years to find out that the studio in question was The Chinese Room.
The release date for the new project was set for last fall, but that didn’t work out. We may not have to wait much longer though, as the game has been rated by the US ESRB, so it could be out in six months. The rating is Mature (17+), the same as the first game. By the way, this will be The Chinese Room’s first RPG, but let’s have a look at the ESRB summary:
„This is an action role-playing game in which players help two vampires regain their memories and powers to stop an uprising. From a first-person perspective, players explore city streets, investigate murders, interact with characters, and fight vampires in melee combat. Players use physical attacks (such as claw slashes, kicks, and bite attacks) and vampiric powers (such as telekinesis and possession) to kill enemy vampires. Players can also use stealth attacks (e.g., neck snap, feed attack) to kill enemies discreetly.
Combat is frenetic, accompanied by impact sounds, realistic gunfire, and large blood splatter effects. Some attacks can result in close-up sequences of the player’s character decapitating and/or impaling enemies. A handful of areas depict decapitated corpses in pools of blood; large bloodstains also appear in several environments. The game contains suggestive/sexual material in dialogue (e.g., “snacking on wh*res,” “p*ssy musta…real sweet”; and “D*ldo of consequence don’t come lubricated, do it?”). The word “f**k” is heard in the game,” ESRB wrote.
So we’re not far from the launch.
