Blizzard has honored a World of Warcraft player who reached the maximum level without killing a single NPC. This pacifist Pandaren chose to avoid the conflict between the Horde and the Alliance and leveled up through gathering professions alone.
In World of Warcraft, players typically rush through the initial tutorial zones, eager to begin their journey in the wider world—completing quests, engaging in the main storyline, and joining the battle between the Horde and the Alliance.
However, some races, like the Pandaren introduced in the Mists of Pandaria expansion, begin their adventure in a neutral state. Once they leave the starter area, they must choose a faction. But one player chose a different path—fully embracing the idea of neutrality and peace in a world built around conflict.
The Ultimate Peaceful Player in WoW
A player known as ‘Doubleagent’ made it his mission to level up a Pandaren character without engaging in combat. Staying true to his character’s lore, he refused to harm anyone, instead relying solely on two gathering professions: Herbalism and Mining.
While commonly used alongside crafting professions, these trades also reward players with experience points when collecting herbs and ores. ‘Doubleagent’ deliberately ignored any quests that involved fighting, focusing instead on fetch quests and exploring the environment for gatherable resources.
When it came time to leave the Wandering Isle—the Pandaren’s starting zone—he simply chose not to. He stayed, tirelessly harvesting plants and minerals until he reached level 90. It took him 170 days—almost six months—of daily effort to hit the level cap during that expansion.
Blizzard Recognizes His Unique Journey
Even with new expansions increasing the level cap, ‘Doubleagent’ remained committed to his pacifist approach, continuing to mine and harvest his way forward through World of Warcraft’s evolving world. Blizzard eventually took notice of his dedication and decided to commemorate it in-game.
With the release of the Dragonflight expansion, the developers introduced a new NPC named Venerable Shaman, modeled after ‘Doubleagent’. This character mirrors the player’s peaceful journey—he’s a druid who collects herbs and minerals on the Wandering Isle, traveling quickly between nodes in wolf form to reflect the resource-focused gameplay that defined ‘Doubleagent’s’ adventure.
