Could This Be the Polish Skyrim? Tainted Grail Prepares for Its 2025 Launch With a Massive Update [VIDEO]

Its open world has already earned the nickname “the Polish Skyrim,” and now it’s received a huge patch adding 20 hours of content ahead of its full release. Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is set to leave Early Access in the second half of 2025.

The world of open-world RPGs is packed with titles, but few have generated quite as much curiosity during Early Access as Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. Based on the board game of the same name, it made a strong debut with an 84% positive rating on Steam. As the game moves closer to its full 1.0 release, developer Questline has rolled out a significant update designed to lay the groundwork for the final version arriving in summer 2025.

This new patch introduces several key features, including a completely overhauled character creation system, improved melee combat mechanics, and a reworked attributes and skills framework. The update also adds spears as a new weapon type and expands Act 1 with more quests, new enemies, and additional loot. Combined with the prologue, the game currently offers roughly 20 hours of content. The magic and summoning systems have also seen substantial redesigns, requiring more thoughtful mana usage and strategic planning.

This update is nearly a full game in itself

At the same time, the development team has focused on enhancing player customization. New systems have been added that allow for farming, taming animals, and even owning a personal home. The patch also introduces a photo mode and long-awaited romance mechanics. However, players should note that version 0.9 is not compatible with older save files—a new game will need to be started to experience the changes.

In a message to fans, the CEO of Awaken Realms praised the dedication and hard work of the team behind Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. What started as a two-person development effort has grown into a full-scale studio, united by a goal to deliver an “authentic open-world RPG” experience. With the final version drawing nearer, the developers are optimistic that their ambitious vision will resonate with genre enthusiasts.

To accompany the patch, a new free demo has been released, allowing players to explore the game ahead of its official debut. Two fresh trailers have also launched: one showcasing gameplay after the update and another cinematic teaser created by Unit Image, the studio responsible for the acclaimed trailers of Elden Ring and Baldur’s Gate 3. With the hype building and polish nearing completion, Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is now targeting a release in Q2 2025.
