TECH NEWS – Now we hear that Intel, under attack with a new CEO, has canceled its high-end graphics card.
It seems that Intel is pulling out of the high-end Arc GPU segment with its Battlemage Xe2 chips. Previously, it was rumored that the top-end graphics card could get 24GB of VRAM, and several variants were spotted in shipping documents. The ‘Blues’ have also reaffirmed their commitment to the discrete GPU segment, stating that they will continue to make strategic investments within the platform.
A reliable leaker on Twitter wrote that Intel may have significantly changed its plans for graphics cards. Allegedly, the high-end Battlemage BMG-G31 GPU is essentially dead, and has been since the third quarter of 2024 (more than half a year). We did see a few cards shipped late last year, but those were presumably for testing or evaluation purposes only, as plans for a retail release may have been scrapped long before that. The BMG-G31 GPU diodes were said to be larger than the G21 used in the B580 and B570 cards. It was rumored to have around 24-32 Xe2 cores with 256-bit memory buses and 16GB of GDDR6 memory.
Died in Q3 of last year.

To clarify, the *retail product* died in Q3.

Currently, there is no news about the Xe3, Celestial GPUs. The Xe3 architecture will be used in the next generation of Panther Lake processors, which will be produced with Intel 18A… but it is an integrated solution. The question is whether we will get standalone graphics cards with this technology. While there is no word on high-end Battlemage graphics cards, this could change in the next few months, as it did with the Arrow Lake refresh. It’s also possible that Intel won’t announce plans for Celestial GPUs just yet, as they’re still a long way from the drawing board. The same leaker also said that the Xe3 and Xe4 (Celestial, Druid) GPUs are doing well, thank you very much.
With the Intel Arc B580 and Arc B570, Intel has released very strong graphics cards for the price, surprising AMD and Nvidia. But maybe don’t expect high-end cards. AMD has also avoided making a high-end card…
