CD Projekt isn’t shifting gears. Beyond crafting top-tier RPGs, the company aims to become “a global entertainment creator.” “Our focus is on games we genuinely enjoy. We won’t suddenly abandon our identity even if genres like survival games surge in popularity,” stated CD Projekt. Despite shifting industry trends, the Polish studio firmly believes RPGs like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 represent gaming’s future.
The video game market has increasingly shifted toward free-to-play and games-as-a-service models. Despite these trends dominating the industry, CD Projekt RED remains firmly dedicated to creating AAA single-player RPGs. The studio’s core remains role-playing experiences, exemplified by upcoming projects like The Witcher 4, a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, and several yet-to-be-announced titles currently in development.
CD Projekt RED reaffirmed their commitment to single-player experiences, explicitly rejecting the idea of chasing new trends simply because they become popular. Michał Nowakowski, the studio’s CEO, elaborated in an interview with Polish media outlet XYZ: “We once dreamed of becoming the creators of the world’s best RPGs. Over time, we realized that distinction lasts only briefly after a game’s launch.”
CD Projekt Won’t Change Its Vision
Adam Badowski pointed out that past success does not guarantee future hits. Nevertheless, CD Projekt’s current ambitions have expanded significantly. “We aim to become global creators of pop culture and entertainment, centering our vision around video games, supplemented by movies, series, animations, or books specifically designed for our fans,” Badowski said (via Gamesradar).
“Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was just a preview of what we have planned,” the studio mentioned, referencing their recent success with Netflix, which has announced another Cyberpunk-related collaboration. Still, for CD Projekt, video games remain at the heart of their business. “Our priority is making games we genuinely love. We won’t abandon everything just because other genres, such as survival games, suddenly gain popularity. There are no radical course changes planned. We aimed to create the best RPGs when we had only a dozen employees, and we maintain that vision today, with more than a thousand people on board,” the company emphasized.
