Kojima Pulls the Same Trick Again: Death Stranding 2 Won’t Have Microtransactions or Require PS Plus

Kojima does it again with Death Stranding 2: no microtransactions, no PS Plus required. The PS Store listing confirms that players won’t need to pay extra for multiplayer or in-game content in the upcoming PS5 exclusive.

Hideo Kojima recently reignited excitement for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach with a cinematic trailer revealing a release date of June 26, 2025, exclusively on PS5. This highly anticipated sequel aims to expand the cryptic world of the original while pushing its storytelling and gameplay to new heights. Kojima seems to be revisiting familiar strategies in key areas of game design.

The PlayStation Store listing confirms that there will be no microtransactions in Death Stranding 2. “There are currently no plans to introduce in-game purchases for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach,” the official description states. This suggests that all post-launch content will likely be added via free updates. However, different game editions will include exclusive cosmetics depending on which version players choose to purchase.

DS2 Multiplayer Works Without PS Plus

Just like the first game, Kojima Productions will use an asynchronous multiplayer system in this sequel. “PS Plus is not required to access the asynchronous multiplayer elements of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach,” the developers have confirmed. For those unfamiliar, this system allows structures, roads, and paths created by other players to appear in your world, enabling indirect collaboration once you’ve connected regions on the map.

This mechanic emphasizes player cooperation without requiring direct interaction. While recent trailers haven’t focused much on multiplayer, it’s likely Kojima has surprises planned in this area. It’s also worth noting that the director previously spoke about the intense mental and physical toll during the game’s most demanding development phases. Death Stranding 2 is scheduled to launch on June 26, 2025, with enhancements tailored for PS5 Pro users.
