Project 007 Is Still Alive – And It’s Coming to Nintendo Switch 2

We hadn’t heard a word about it in years, but now we know: they were saving it for the Nintendo Switch 2. The long-awaited James Bond game is still in the works. Hitman 3 developers IO Interactive have confirmed it will launch on Nintendo’s next-gen console, alongside PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

IO Interactive has had a fascinating evolution over the past few years. After buying back the rights to the Hitman franchise and completing a critically acclaimed trilogy, the Danish studio set its sights on another iconic secret agent: James Bond. First announced in 2020 under the working title Project 007, the game quickly faded from public view—until now.

IO has officially confirmed that development on Project 007 is still active and progressing well. While the game still has no title or release date, we now know it’s coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in addition to other major platforms. The title will feature a completely original story exploring Bond’s origins—unconnected to the films—and will let players experience how 007 earned his legendary status.

Creative Director Christian Elverdam says development is going “incredibly well” and that the team is eager to share more soon. Their ambition is to craft a unique narrative that could potentially launch a full trilogy within the Bond universe—one not based on Daniel Craig’s portrayal.

Adding Project 007 to the Switch 2 lineup is a strategic win for both IO Interactive and Nintendo. The portable nature of the Switch 2 means fans can take Bond’s stealthy adventures on the go, opening up the franchise to a broader audience. It also signals a shift: the Big N is doubling down on attracting third-party support for its new hardware.

Nintendo Switch 2 Now Has a Release Date

Today marked a big day for Nintendo: during its latest Direct presentation, the company confirmed that the Switch 2 will officially launch on June 5, 2025. With this timing, Nintendo is positioning itself to dominate the summer season with a mix of exclusives and third-party blockbusters. Pricing hasn’t yet been revealed, but with games like Cyberpunk 2077 joining the launch lineup, the message is clear—Nintendo is aiming big.
