NINTENDO NEWS – More games will become multiplatform as titles planned or already released for Switch will also run on Switch 2.
What is Nintendo Switch 2 Edition? Users who own or purchase the original game for Switch can upgrade to Nintendo Switch 2 Edition by purchasing the game’s upgrade pack from the Nintendo eShop, My Nintendo Store or retail stores. After upgrading, the original Switch game can still be played on Switch, but the features and content of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition can only be played on Switch 2.
Game Freak and The Pokemon Company have announced Pokemon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition for the Switch 2. It will be released in late 2025. It will feature improved performance with a higher frame rate and resolution. Retro Studios and Nintendo have announced Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition for Switch 2. It will be released in 2025. It will feature support for mouse control with the Joy-Con 2 controllers, improved resolution, textures, and load times. Quality Mode runs at 60 frames per second at 4K resolution in TV mode / 1080p in handheld mode. Performance Mode runs at 120 frames per second at 1080p resolution in TV mode / 720p in handheld mode. Both modes support HDR.
Nintendo has announced Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World for Switch 2. It will be released on August 28. It will feature a new story (Star-Crossed World) and will be visually enhanced with an improved frame rate. Nintendo has announced The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition for Switch 2. They will be released alongside the hardware on June 5. They will feature support for the game-specific Zelda Notes service via the Nintendo Switch App, improved frame rates and resolution, faster load times and HDR support.
Nintendo announced Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV for Switch 2. It will be released on July 24. It will feature a new way to play that is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2: Jamboree TV. New modes that use mouse controls, microphone and a compatible USB-C camera (sold separately). Players can appear in-game via CameraPlay using a compatible USB-C camera. GameShare compatibility for local multiplayer. WQHD (1440p) resolution in TV mode, Full HD (1080p) in tabletop and handheld modes (Jamboree TV only). Also visually enhanced with improved frame rate.
So there will be reasons to upgrade.
