Marvel Rivals: The Seasons Will Change a Bit! [VIDEO]

Season 2 (Hellfire Gala) is about to launch, and NetEase has introduced Emma Frost from the X-Men team.

Marvel Rivals developer NetEase Games has revealed new details about the upcoming Season 2: Hellfire Gala update, which will be released on April 11. With the new season comes Emma Frost as well as Ultron, who will ruin the Frost-directed gala in the mutant nation of Krakoa. This is also the location for the new maps coming with season two, which will feature dreamy botanical landscapes and beautiful fireworks, according to the press release. Season 2 will also add weekly missions to the daily missions that players are accustomed to, giving players a little more to do over the course of the three-month season. Beginning with Season 3, a season in Marvel Rivals will be just two months long, and a new playable character will be introduced each month.

For Season 2, Emma Frost will be introduced as a new Vanguard character in the first half of the season, with details on Ultron and his character type coming in the second half of the season. This season will also be the first time that NetEase will adjust or remove some team-up abilities, marking the first major change to the game that launched late last year. So far, Marvel Rivals has done what many major publishers have tried to do with little success (achieve major results among live service titles).

NetEase boasts that the game has grown to over 40 million players since its launch and shows no signs of slowing down. Marvel Rivals is in a better position than Sony’s failed Concord (it tried to create new characters and a new world), but as we saw with Marvel’s Avengers, having a big IP behind a game doesn’t automatically mean success. In fact, NetEase acknowledged that the studio is aware of the pressure to maintain results.

The changes could prove to be the beginning of a turning point, as evidenced by the shortened seasons. The move was made specifically to keep players engaged and not let the game slow down too much.
