With anticipation sky-high, the Nintendo Switch 2 is under pressure to deliver a powerful, next-gen experience packed with killer titles like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza. But gamers aren’t thrilled about €90 titles and a console priced at €470.
While the Switch 2 reveal created huge buzz, many fans were left frustrated by one glaring omission in the Nintendo Direct: the pricing. Former Nintendo of America PR veterans Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang criticized the company in a recent YouTube video, saying the lack of transparency caused confusion and was ultimately disrespectful to consumers.
“This Feels Like a Real Crisis for Nintendo”
“I don’t want to exaggerate, but this honestly feels like a real crisis for Nintendo,” Ellis stated (via IGN). “The way the pricing was handled was a disaster—scattered information, no centralized message. It’s like they expected fans to hunt down basic facts on their own.” He added, “It comes off as disrespectful, like, ‘You just watched the Direct and you’re so hyped you’ll throw money at us without even asking the price.’”
Yang echoed the sentiment, saying: “It’s borderline insulting to the intelligence of consumers. They’ve let the messaging spiral out of control. They’re no longer steering the ship.” Fans are also upset that the Switch 2’s introductory game isn’t a free tech demo, but a paid release. Another sore spot is the voice chat feature: unlike Xbox or PlayStation, or free Discord on PC, the Switch 2 only allows chat via the C button for Switch Online subscribers.
