FromSoftware’s Adorable New Character Has Fans Stunned – Meet the Nintendo-Inspired Star of The Duskbloods!

FromSoftware surprised everyone with their cutest character yet. The winged mouse seen in The Duskbloods trailer is Hidetaka Miyazaki’s homage to Nintendo’s iconic style.

Last week’s major announcements sent waves through the gaming community. After Nintendo revealed details about the Switch 2, FromSoftware caught fans off guard by unveiling their new game exclusively for Nintendo’s next-gen console: The Duskbloods. Considering the upcoming launch of Elden Ring: Nightreign, the timing was particularly unexpected. However, this partnership between Nintendo and FromSoftware promises a strong third-party exclusive, highlighted by an unusually charming character: a tiny winged mouse.

Known primarily for grim and unsettling creatures, FromSoftware has taken a surprising turn towards a more cheerful aesthetic for this collaboration. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki explained in a recent exclusive interview that the team intentionally went for a Nintendo-like charm.

“We wanted to create something that embodies Nintendo’s playful spirit, as part of our collaboration,” Miyazaki explained with a smile. “We set out to make something cute this time. Although I must add, this character is actually an elderly gentleman.” Who exactly this “elderly gentleman” is remains a mystery, with the winged mouse seen in the trailer sparking speculation. This character will serve an important function in guiding players through the game’s new eight-player multiplayer matches, akin to the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series.

While much about The Duskbloods remains under wraps, initial reactions have been mixed due to its multiplayer-oriented gameplay. Nevertheless, Kadokawa Group, FromSoftware’s parent company, experienced a significant stock boost shortly after the announcement, reflecting strong market optimism despite fan reservations.
