Yakuza 0 Returns in 4K with New Story Content and Online Co-op on Nintendo Switch 2

Running at 4K and 60 FPS on the Nintendo Switch 2 is just the beginning: Yakuza 0 is back with all-new content never seen before. Revealed during last week’s Nintendo Direct, the Director’s Cut version of the game features nearly 30 minutes of fresh cinematic sequences.

Although it wasn’t the biggest surprise of the recent Nintendo Direct, the announcement of Yakuza 0 for the Nintendo Switch 2 clearly signals SEGA’s intent to broaden its audience on Nintendo platforms. But this isn’t just a port of the 2015 classic — itself a prequel to the entire franchise — it’s a full-blown Director’s Cut that comes loaded with nearly half an hour of new content.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, Makoto Suzuki of RGG Studio shed light on what fans can expect in this enhanced edition. According to Suzuki, the Director’s Cut will add approximately 26 minutes of brand-new cutscenes that weren’t included in the original release. While the reason for their initial exclusion wasn’t addressed, the new footage offers additional context for key character relationships — particularly between Kiryu and Nishiki, Kiryu and Kuze, and Majima and an unnamed mysterious figure.

Suzuki emphasized: “These added sequences won’t be essential for newcomers, but they’ll absolutely enrich the experience for long-time fans of the series.”

Exclusive Multiplayer Mode Arrives

In addition to the new cinematic content, the game will feature an exclusive online mode called Red Light Raid. Taking advantage of the Switch 2’s new capabilities, including voice chat and the C button, this mode lets players team up with friends in chaotic wave-based combat. It can also be played solo, ensuring it’s accessible to players even when offline.

While the updated version is designed to deliver stunning visuals — with 4K resolution in docked mode and a consistent 60 FPS — the wording “first on Switch 2” suggests that other platforms might receive the game later on. What is certain is that Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut will be fully localized with Spanish text and subtitles, and will launch on June 5 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 — at least to start.
