“We sincerely apologize” – Team Ninja admits the PC release of Rise of the Ronin was subpar and confirms a patch is coming on April 10 to address widespread performance problems.
Rise of the Ronin stands as one of Team Ninja’s most ambitious endeavors to date, offering a blend of open-world exploration, brutal combat, and narrative choices set in feudal Japan. The game found solid success on PlayStation 5, and its PC release was expected to follow suit. However, the Steam debut has turned out to be a rough one.
The PC version has received mixed feedback, with the bulk of the criticism focused on technical shortcomings. Players have flagged constant stuttering, random crashes, and underwhelming overall performance. It’s been nearly a month since the game launched on Steam, and early on, many players even experienced corrupted or deleted save files, prompting an apology from the developers.
Patch Coming April 10 as Team Ninja Responds
With community frustration mounting, Team Ninja took to X/Twitter to issue an apology and confirm that a patch, scheduled for April 10, is on the way. Details are sparse on what exactly will be fixed, but the studio says it aims to improve some of the ongoing issues. This isn’t the first time the developer has stumbled with PC ports — both Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Ninja Gaiden: The Master Collection launched with similar issues.
“We are currently investigating the reported issues for the Steam version of Rise of the Ronin. We are preparing a patch to be released on April 10th to fix or improve some of these issues. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,” reads Team Ninja’s statement. According to SteamDB, Rise of the Ronin peaked at around 12,700 concurrent players shortly after launch, but the player count has now plummeted, with only 856 users currently playing.
