Activision appears to be preparing the return of two more classic Call of Duty titles. According to Australia’s classification board, Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 have both been listed as “multi-generational editions,” hinting at upcoming remasters.

The original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games were more than just popular shooters—they were genre-defining landmarks. With cinematic campaigns and groundbreaking multiplayer modes, they helped shape modern FPS gaming as we know it. The 2009 release of Modern Warfare 2 and its 2011 sequel Modern Warfare 3 captivated millions with their memorable weapons, iconic maps, and high-intensity gameplay. Their legacy has endured across console generations and continues to influence the genre.

Now, more than ten years later, signs strongly suggest that both titles could be returning in updated form. Australia’s classification authority has rated new cross-generation editions of both games with an MA 15+ rating, aiming for a 2025 launch. The listing for Modern Warfare 2 mentions a PS5 version specifically, while MW3 is noted as multiplatform. This has sparked widespread speculation, especially since Activision previously released Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered back in 2020. These new listings lack the Roman numerals seen in the recent 2022 and 2023 releases, suggesting they refer to the original games and not the newer reboots.

Are these games coming to Game Pass?

Even with the PlayStation 5 version mentioned, the idea of these remasters coming to Game Pass isn’t far-fetched. Reports from Insider Gaming and XboxEra suggest that Modern Warfare 2 could join the Xbox subscription platform between March and April. For now, the only Call of Duty entries available on Game Pass are Modern Warfare 3 (2023) and the upcoming Black Ops 6, which has already shattered records for Activision. Time will tell if these classic titles are next in line.
