“This is a good and healthy thing.” CD Projekt RED has officially announced the full integration of The Molasses Flood, the team responsible for the multiplayer spin-off of The Witcher franchise.
The world of The Witcher is continuing to grow. While fans wait with anticipation for the fourth main installment featuring Ciri, CD Projekt has several projects in the pipeline that expand the universe even further. Among these is a remake of the original The Witcher, which promises to be an extensive endeavor. Until now, the multiplayer spin-off known as Project Sirius was being developed by The Molasses Flood, a CD Projekt-owned independent studio.
Now, four years after its acquisition, The Molasses Flood has ceased operating independently and has been fully merged into CD Projekt RED as of April 1, according to the studio’s official website. The move does not mean work has stopped on Project Sirius – in fact, the restructuring is meant “to ensure even better alignment in the scope and direction of the project.”
The news was shared by CD Projekt’s co-CEO, who stated, “We have decided to integrate The Molasses Flood team into our studio structure by merging the company with CD Projekt RED.” He added that the decision “naturally entails some changes in the direction of the project” but confirmed that “Project Sirius is moving forward.” At the same time, Molasses Flood co-founder Damian Isla announced via LinkedIn that he has left the company, although he welcomed the transition.
“It’s going to be an amazing game.”
“This is a good and healthy thing for the studio, and has been long overdue. It breaks down some organizational barriers and better integrates The Molasses Flood team with the rest of the amazing CD Projekt RED organization,” Isla explained. “Overall, this bodes very well for the future of Project Sirius (aka ‘The Witcher multiplayer game’), which I was design director on for three years. It’s going to be an amazing game, one to remember, and I can’t wait for the rest of the world to see what we’ve been developing.”
