April 11 has been “Hungarian Poetry Day” since 1964 – on this day we celebrate Hungarian poets and Hungarian poetry. On the occasion of this important day, Madame Tussauds Budapest invited two popular contemporary poets, Orsolya Karafiáth and Zsófi Kemény, to visit the production on Dorottya Street. The artists met the only Hungarian poet in the production, Sándor Petőfi, who “waited for them” for a joint photo in the installation evoking the atmosphere of the Pilvax café of the time. Dozens of craftsmen and historians worked on Petőfi’s figure for several months to ensure that his clothing and appearance were lifelike.

Petőfi is one of the most popular Hungarian figures in the production, and in addition to domestic guests, foreigners also enjoy taking photos with the figure of the fiery poet. The installation surrounding the poet evokes the Pilvax café of the time and its atmosphere, and visitors can even browse through a Hírmondó newspaper. Anyone can create their own poem using the typewriter in the installation.

Although there are not many professional poets among the approximately sixty figures in the Madame Tussauds Budapest production, several have written lasting song lyrics and written books. The most surprising of them is Pope Francis – a book was published based on the head of the church’s thoughts on poetry and literature.

Lady Gaga is not only active as a singer, she also writes the lyrics for several hits as a songwriter, including the iconic song Born This Way. Freddie Mercury also wrote the lyrics for several hits, and the former frontman of Queen is the author of the band’s most successful songs.

Few people know that Marilyn Monroe that the actress, left behind several poetic fragments that were published long after her death. The writings show the imprint of a sensitive, reflective personality.

Madonna is not only a materialistic girl, but also the author of two children’s books. Her book English Roses tells the story of four girls, and Mr. Peabody’s Apples, published in 2003, contains an instructive tale.

In the halls of Madame Tussauds Budapest, anyone can meet Sándor Petőfi and other celebrities, many of whom are also masters of words.
