Cross-generation first-party games may not require a lot of spending if we want to play their Switch 2 updates.
The price of the Nintendo Switch 2, as well as the price of the games, didn’t really come up much in last week’s Nintendo Switch 2 Direct. In today’s news, there was already talk of what Doug Bowser, president of Nintendo’s US subsidiary, Nintendo, said about the price of the Nintendo Switch 2, somewhat echoing Don Mattrick’s rhetoric about the Xbox One from 2013. However, there may be some good news. It seems that one of the games on the Big N’s next-generation hardware (which we can safely call a re-release) might not make us want to crack open the piggy bank. (Mario Kart World could do that, and Nintendo has defended its pricing; we’ve written about that before).
During the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct reveal, it was revealed that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will also be among the opening titles on the new platform. We’ve previously reported that the two Zelda titles on Nintendo Switch 2 will be prettier, bigger and more immersive. In an interview with IGN, Bill Trinen, Nintendo of America’s vice president of product and player experience, discussed the company’s pricing strategy for Switch 2, and the conversation turned to two games from The Legend of Zelda: “For someone who bought Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild, the upgrade packs for those are $9.99. And if you happen to be a member of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, the two Zelda expansion packs are included in that membership. So there is no additional charge for those,” Trinen said.
So it may not be necessary to buy the two full games, which can cost more than $140 (maybe even more). In comparison, it might be cheaper and more logical to buy the two games for the regular Switch and then buy the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack separately. You can get out of it much cheaper…
