Is Mario Plotting a Big Return on Switch 2? Nintendo Tells Fans to Stay Tuned!

He may have been the most glaring omission from the latest Direct, but Nintendo hasn’t forgotten about its mustachioed hero. According to Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser, fans should “stay tuned” for what’s next regarding Mario on the Switch 2. Bowser also hinted that the development team has “a long list” of potential IPs that might land on the new platform.

The most recent Nintendo Direct, centered around the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and its debut titles, sparked a flurry of reactions from gamers across the globe. While some focused on the console’s specs or the pricing of the games, others were more baffled by who wasn’t present, namely Mario. Despite his absence, Nintendo is encouraging fans not to lose hope, as fresh news might be on the horizon.

Doug Bowser, the president of Nintendo of America, addressed this mystery during an interview with CNN. While he discussed both hardware details and the company’s plans with third-party developers, the burning question came up: Will we get a new Mario game for Switch 2? Bowser’s answer didn’t offer specifics but was clear enough—more information is coming, and fans should be ready.

“You know, we have a very extensive catalog and a long list of [intellectual properties] that I’m sure will come to the platform,” Bowser concluded. Although Mario didn’t headline this latest presentation—aside from the announcement of Mario Kart: World—it’s highly likely we’ll see him starring in a dedicated game sometime shortly.

Mario Kart: World Bundle Will Cease Production This October

In the weeks following the Nintendo Direct, the company has continued to share more about the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch. Recently, Nintendo reaffirmed that the bundle featuring the console and Mario Kart: World, priced at €509.99, will only remain in production until October 2025. After that, the package will no longer be available, making it a limited-time offer for fans and collectors.
