Tamriel Rebuilt has received a huge update, so The Elder Scrolls III hasn’t been neglected while many have been playing the recently released remaster of the fourth game.
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is a beloved first-person RPG classic, though it never became a breakout mainstream hit. While the game technically took place in Morrowind, players were restricted to the volcanic island of Vvardenfell. The mainland was frequently referenced, but remained out of reach. That gap is now filled by the Tamriel Rebuilt project – a decades-long community effort aiming to expand the game world to encompass all of Morrowind, complete with new cities, quests, and characters.
This week, the team released the ninth major update – and by far the biggest yet – titled Grasping Fortune. It adds a sprawling new region and perhaps the most intricate fantasy city ever created in an RPG. Just building this one area reportedly took seven years! The expansion pushes the map beyond southern Vvardenfell and deep into Morrowind’s remote provinces. At its heart lies Narsis, the decadent seat of power for House Hlaalu.
270 Quests, 140 Dungeons, 2,500 NPCs – All in One City
Narsis is a dense urban hub teeming with trade and crime, its docks bustling with activity. Whether you play as a criminal affiliated with Ja-Natta or not, there’s no shortage of things to do. The modders added 270 new missions and 140 dungeons in this region alone. Over 200 buildings feature fully explorable interiors, and a complex sewer system runs beneath the city. More than 2,500 unique NPCs populate the area—1,100 of them in Narsis alone. For comparison, the entirety of Vvardenfell in the base game featured just 2,824 characters across a much larger space.
In terms of scope, this update is nearly as massive as the base game itself. Interested players can grab the mod via Nexus Mods. For best results, it’s highly recommended to install OpenMW, a modern engine replacement officially supported by Tamriel Rebuilt. If not, the Morrowind Script Extender is the fallback option.
