Remedy Entertainment’s next game, Control 2, is being developed on a smaller budget than their previous success, Alan Wake 2.
According to CEO Tero Virtala, €50 million is sufficient to create an excellent Remedy game, and this is the budget for Control 2. This amount is slightly less than what was allocated for Alan Wake 2.
Remedy has always been known for creating exceptional single-player experiences that critics rave about, but they never manage to achieve the huge commercial success of other similar single-player games. Alan Wake 2 recently sold 2 million copies, despite being released in 2023. This is surprising because the Finnish team’s game was a critical success, but this was not reflected in sales.
Therefore, it’s not surprising that Remedy is looking to streamline its processes so that it can continue to make the games it’s famous for without fear of not surviving. Control 2 is currently in full development, and the studio aims for the game to break even at 2 million units sold, with significant profit if it reaches 4-5 million sales.
