TECH NEWS – E.ON Drive Infrastructure Hungary (EDRI) is rolling out electric vehicle charging stations across the nationwide store network of XXXLutz, Möbelix, and Mömax. The first chargers were installed in the parking lot of the Budapest XXXLutz store, which belongs to MMXH Lakberendezési Kft. The nearly HUF 500 million investment aims to give the retail group a competitive edge among electric vehicle drivers.
EDRI is equipping MMXH stores with a total of 92 charging points at 25 locations in 11 Hungarian cities. As a result, Budapest, Budaörs, Nyíregyháza, Debrecen, Sopron, Pécs, Győr, Kecskemét, Miskolc, Székesfehérvár, and Szeged will see the addition of new charging infrastructure. Through this investment of approximately EUR 1.2 million (HUF 500 million), EDRI will install the latest generation of HPC (high performance charger) ultra-fast and FC (fast charger) fast charging devices over the next three years, offering power outputs between 50 and 400 kW. The DC (direct current) chargers used at these sites significantly outperform conventional AC (alternating current) stations, allowing EVs to recharge quickly, often during the time customers spend shopping.
EDRI, part of the E.ON Group, is a leading European charge point operator (CPO). In Hungary, the company develops, builds, and operates a public EV charging network supporting all electric vehicle types. EDRI currently manages over 7,100 public charging points across 11 European countries, including Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Poland, the UK, the Czech Republic, Italy, Romania, the Netherlands, and Hungary. Working with location partners, EDRI plans to expand its network by an additional 1,000 high-power charging points annually across Europe. In Hungary, the company already operates more than 400 charging points, of which 72 offer 300 kW power output.
“EDRI’s goal is to make public charging available everywhere in Europe. In Hungary, this means establishing strategic collaborations with key domestic partners, including major retailers, hotels, restaurants, and other popular destinations for EV drivers. On customer-provided premises, EDRI invests in, designs, installs, and operates charging points tailored to local needs. All our charging stations run entirely on certified green energy to ensure sustainable operation,” emphasized Péter Boros, Managing Director of EDRI.
MMXH Lakberendezési Kft. includes the Mömax and Möbelix store chains and, since 2023, also the XXXLutz brand. After the merger, MMXH now employs over 1,000 people in Hungary and achieved a 3% increase in revenue last year, reaching HUF 82 billion. MMXH is part of the XXXLutz Group, which operates over 600 stores across Europe. XXXLutz has a presence in Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Serbia, and Poland. Over the past 30 years, the group has grown continuously and surpassed EUR 6.5 billion in revenue in 2024, making it one of the largest furniture retailers globally.
“Our group is committed to offering not only quality furniture and countless home furnishing items but also delivering the best possible customer experience. With the rise of e-mobility, we aim to provide a meaningful alternative for EV drivers while also advancing the electrification of our internal fleet, including both passenger and commercial vehicles. Our cooperation with EDRI is an important part of this strategy,” said András Simonyi, Managing Director of MMXH Lakberendezési Kft.
To support its carbon neutrality goals, MMXH plans to transition its corporate fleet of 200 vehicles to BEV (Battery Electric Vehicles) in the coming years. This fleet of passenger and light commercial vehicles will also rely on EDRI’s charging network to ensure seamless, countrywide mobility as part of a dedicated supply agreement.
