Someone could already get hands-on time with GTA 6 – but he refuses to do it, because he’s not a gamer, and it’s not his job. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive and owner of Rockstar, isn’t into playing games; he’s focused on the business side.
While millions of gamers anxiously await every tiny detail about GTA 6, one of the key figures behind the project made a surprising admission. Strauss Zelnick, the head of Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, revealed that he won’t be playing Grand Theft Auto 6 – not because he can’t, but because his involvement is purely business. He simply doesn’t consider himself a gamer.
The man behind GTA 6 doesn’t play games
During an interview with CNBC, Zelnick was asked whether he’s had a chance to try GTA 6 yet. His response was unexpectedly honest: “I’m not a gamer, not really. I don’t play video games, I’m not a consumer.” Although the remark surprised many, his reasoning was clear. As CEO, Zelnick believes his role is not to personally test products, but to steer the company from a strategic position.
“My job is to attract, retain, and motivate the best people in the business. Direct involvement in development isn’t part of my philosophy,” he explained. “My role is to stay out of the way.” He expressed full trust in Rockstar’s creative teams and other Take-Two studios, including those working on Borderlands 4.
Zelnick also elaborated on why executives should avoid becoming “primary consumers” of their own products. “I wasn’t like that in film, television, or music, even though I can read a script and love music… but that’s not my role,” he noted. To him, success depends on a clear business vision and giving creative talent room to shine.
That doesn’t mean he’s not excited about the project. According to Zelnick, Rockstar is aiming to create “the best thing anyone has ever seen in the world of digital entertainment.” Even if he won’t be the one playing, his confidence in the team suggests the franchise is in good hands – and may be poised for its biggest leap yet.
