Is a State of Play and the PlayStation 5 Port of Starfield Coming Soon?

Two rumors surrounding Sony emerged within a single day, and we’ve gathered both in one place for clarity.

During the Giant Bomb Game Mess Mornings broadcast, the always-reliable Jeff Grubb commented on the next PlayStation event. He stated that, like Nate the Hate, he hadn’t heard anything about a May showcase and believed one was planned for June instead. However, the event likely won’t be a large-scale production. Sony has been alternating between its PlayStation Showcase and State of Play formats, and it appears a new State of Play stream could arrive next month. Grubb noted how difficult it was to get this information, suggesting that something significant is happening behind the scenes at Sony.

It’s been a long time since Sony held a major showcase, so it’s quite possible Grubb’s insights are accurate. No specific titles were confirmed for the rumored State of Play, but Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Ghost of Yōtei are likely to make appearances.

Meanwhile, another trustworthy leaker claims that the Starfield PlayStation 5 port will be officially confirmed and launched later this year. On Twitter, NateTheHate – known for past accurate leaks – revealed that Sony will announce the Bethesda Game Studios title’s PS5 version before the end of 2025. He also believes that the gap between announcement and release will be minimal.

Rumors about this port have circulated for a while, though concrete proof of its development has not surfaced. The only potential clue was the PlayStation 5 logo appearing on a Creation listing in March, suggesting the game might not be far from release. Could the June State of Play be the moment Sony officially unveils it?
