Nintendo Switch 2 PC Mouse Support: The Unexpected Twist We Never Saw Coming

Nintendo has made it possible, turning what once seemed impossible into a reality. Just like the Joy-Cons, a PC peripheral – the humble mouse – will soon be fully compatible with the console. In a Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening Complete Edition video, Koei Tecmo confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 is ready to handle PC mice. Nintendo has broken down another barrier, bringing to life something many never thought possible – the Switch 2 will now work with PC mice.

The arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2 has stirred up enormous excitement among gamers, not just for its hardware power and the exclusive games slated for the coming years, but also for the revolutionary new features that promise to redefine the console experience. One of the most surprising updates is the ability to transform the Joy-Con controllers into mouse-like devices, a feature that could be a game-changer for strategy titles and any genre that demands pinpoint precision. Here, Nintendo has gone further than ever before.

Koei Tecmo confirmed the USB mouse support in a recent YouTube video, showcasing how a single button on the Joy-Con 2 can enable mouse mode, unlocking right and left clicks and smooth scrolling. Even more striking was producer Michi Ryu’s demonstration of connecting a standard USB mouse to the console, which worked seamlessly and without a hitch.

USB Mouse Functionality on the Switch 2

The Switch 2 instantly recognized the connected mouse, signaling that the console was built with multiple input methods in mind – catering to both casual gamers and those seeking an extra level of precision. However, this feature isn’t suited to every game. For example, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Super Mario Party Jamboree: Switch 2 Edition are designed around the unique buttons and functions of the Joy-Con 2, making a mouse a poor substitute.

While a USB mouse may be a perfect fit for certain strategy games, there are many other titles that will likely make the most of the built-in mouse mode in the Joy-Con 2 itself. There’s still plenty we don’t know, but it’s a safe bet that PC mouse support will become increasingly common, especially as the Switch 2’s control systems are integrated into more and more games.
