It may be one of the Belgian studio’s upcoming projects, but they claim it was merely a minor Twitter glitch and nothing more
A few days ago, Larian Studios stirred up the gaming community by briefly changing their Twitter handle from @larianstudios to @divinity. This sparked excitement because the first two Divinity: Original Sin games made them famous, even before Baldur’s Gate 3. Many fans assumed this hinted at a return to their roots with their next big project.
For now, there’s no concrete information on what Larian’s next project might be. The studio is reportedly working on two large-scale RPGs, but they won’t share any details. A new Divinity entry seems plausible: the first was their big breakthrough, and the second was an even bigger success. Not long after the handle swap made the rounds, Michael Douse, the publishing director, stepped in to clear the air…
“Unfortunately (depending on your perspective), this is just part of the process of reviewing what we own and what we have or haven’t claimed in terms of our IPs. It turns out it’s wise to control the handles linked to your IPs to prevent others from misusing them. Twitter handed over a lot of accounts, but for some reason, this one was swapped on the Larian profile. I wish there was more to it, but we’re juggling multiple projects and won’t be making announcements anytime soon—especially not at 1 a.m. while I’m watching 1923 on Paramount+. At least now, if you get a message from a Larian-related handle, you’ll know it’s actually us and not someone else,” wrote Douse.
He added that it’s still too early to reveal what they’re working on, since several projects are underway and it’ll take time to see how they develop.
