MindsEye Returns as a Standalone Game, Breaking Away from Its Original Vision

The studio led by the creator of GTA has made a surprising decision with its most ambitious project, completely redirecting MindsEye. Once promoted as part of the Everywhere universe, the game is now an independent project at Build a Rocket Boy.

Build a Rocket Boy, founded by Leslie Benzies—former Rockstar developer and one of the key figures behind the Grand Theft Auto franchise—is putting the final touches on MindsEye, an action game set to raise players’ heart rates on June 10. Initially revealed in 2023 alongside the even more ambitious Everywhere project, the team has been silent ever since—until now, with a major shake-up that turns everything upside down.

It’s worth remembering the original vision for Build a Rocket Boy. In 2023, the team introduced Everywhere: a digital world similar to Roblox, where players could explore user-generated experiences. Players could create these adventures using the Arcadia editor, which included assets, NPCs, environments, and gameplay systems. At the time, MindsEye was nothing more than a separate title accessible through this digital universe.

But in October 2024, Build a Rocket Boy took a new turn. IO Interactive, creators of Hitman, announced that MindsEye would be released as a standalone game, no longer tied to Everywhere. The latest trailer confirmed that players will have access to two new features: Build.MindsEye—a PC-exclusive editor for creating small adventures—and Play.MindsEye—a hub where creations can be shared with the console community.

Build a Rocket Boy Focuses Fully on MindsEye and Its Three Pillars

This raises the question: what has become of Everywhere and the Arcadia editor? VGC noted that the Everywhere website now redirects to the MindsEye page, suggesting the studio has shifted its entire focus there. VGC reached out to the developers to clarify the situation.

“Like with all new products, things evolve,” the team explained. “Arcadia was originally our platform for creating experiences, but as MindsEye developed and the Build a Rocket Boy ecosystem expanded, it naturally evolved into something more focused—Play.MindsEye and Build.MindsEye.” They described the new system as “three tightly connected experiences: an explosive action campaign; Play.MindsEye, offering a constant stream of premium content; and Build.MindsEye, where players can design their own games.”

Notably, Build a Rocket Boy did not mention Everywhere at all in its response, so it’s possible the digital world has been completely shelved to focus resources on these three experiences. We’ll have to wait for official word, but many suspect this marks the end of Everywhere.
