Great news for Witcher 3 fans! It’s been a decade, but the beloved RPG is finally expanding mod support beyond PC. CD Projekt RED has confirmed cross-platform mod support for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
It’s hard to believe, but the brilliant The Witcher 3 is already 10 years old, and CD Projekt RED is celebrating in style with community initiatives and surprises like the one featured in this announcement. After winning over fans by releasing REDkit – the official RPG editor – to the PC community, the Polish studio is taking another big step by confirming that players on both consoles and computers will be able to use mods. In simple terms, console gamers will finally get to enjoy fan-made modifications.
According to a statement on The Witcher’s official website, this exciting feature is set to arrive in 2025 and will utilize mod.io, a platform that facilitates the integration of user-generated content and mods across multiple platforms. “Creating, sharing, and experiencing mods will be easier and more accessible because PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S players will all share a common modding ecosystem,” explains CD Projekt RED.
It’s important to note that creating mods directly on PlayStation and Xbox consoles won’t be possible. “While Xbox Series X|S and PS5 players will be able to enjoy the wide variety of mods available through cross-platform support, these mods must be made using PC-based tools like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s REDkit,” the studio clarified. Even so, it’s great news for anyone looking to return to Geralt of Rivia’s world with exciting community content.
The Witcher 3 Has Surpassed 60 Million Units Sold
In addition to CD Projekt RED’s 10th anniversary initiatives, the studio has updated The Witcher 3’s sales figures in its latest financial report. The RPG’s reach continues to grow, having already surpassed 60 million units sold worldwide. This milestone puts it ahead of Super Mario Bros. and on par with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
