Sony is working on the PlayStation 6, but if you’re hoping to play one of its first major titles anytime soon, think again – Kojima’s new game is still years away.
PlayStation isn’t done with home consoles just yet, and the PlayStation 6 is in development. That said, Sony has kept quiet about the details.
One of the first titles lined up for the PlayStation 6 might not arrive for what feels like an eternity. Back in February, Hideo Kojima – the mastermind behind Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding – announced he was developing a new action-espionage title called Physint. While little is known about the game, its spy-based premise has fans hoping for echoes of Metal Gear. But with Kojima, anything is possible – predicting the direction of Kojima Productions is a fool’s errand.
Right now, Kojima and his team are preparing for the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which has recently gone gold and is moving into disc production. He’s also working on a horror game called OD, which has sparked interest from P.T. fans. This Xbox-exclusive project remains shrouded in mystery, though speculation suggests OD stands for Overdose.
Physint May Be the PS6’s First Unofficial Game
As for Physint, Kojima recently hinted that it won’t be released for another five to six years. By that time, the PlayStation 6 will likely be on the market, making this potentially the first game quietly confirmed for the next-gen console. By 2031 or 2032, the console will already be four to five years into its lifecycle, with rumors pointing to a fall 2027 launch. Both Sony and Microsoft are also rumored to be exploring handheld options.
Physint is essentially a spiritual successor meant to honor Metal Gear Solid fans, since Kojima no longer holds the rights to continue the franchise, which remain with Konami.
