Ten years after the sudden death of Divinity: Original Sin composer Kirill Pokrovsky, Larian Studios has paid heartfelt tribute to his legacy. A moving message and commemorative playlist ensure the memory of the studio’s first musical soul remains alive.
It’s hard to believe a full decade has passed since Kirill Pokrovsky, the composer behind the Divinity series, died unexpectedly at age 53. Fans and the Larian community were shocked—Pokrovsky wasn’t just a behind-the-scenes figure: his music defined every early game the studio made, including the obscure The LED Wars. His sound shaped Larian’s emotional core.
Since then, Larian has grown from a struggling indie team in Ghent to an international powerhouse with smash hits like Baldur’s Gate 3. Yet even now, they haven’t forgotten Pokrovsky. “How has it been 10 years since we lost you, Kirill?” the studio wrote in a tribute. “A mark left so deep, you’re still with us when the moments count, when we head into battle, and when the end credits roll. Forever cherished for who you were and what you helped achieve.”
Alongside the tribute, Larian shared a YouTube playlist titled Remembering Kirill Pokrovsky, which includes concert footage from the Divinity: Original Sin Kickstarter era and lighter behind-the-scenes moments. Founder Swen Vincke also posted on X: “We’ll never forget him. A dear friend and an incredible composer. And also a very funny man.”
The original 2015 memorial post honoring Kirill Pokrovsky remains available on Larian’s Facebook page—a testament to how deeply he influenced the team and its games.
