Call of Duty Black Ops 7: Why Is It Still Coming to PS4 and Xbox One? Sony’s Numbers Reveal the Truth!

There’s a good reason why Black Ops 7 will be on PS4 and Xbox One. It’s very easy to understand and PlayStation just proved it. Call of Duty Black Ops 7 could open pre-orders from June 20.

The announcement of Call of Duty Black Ops 7 at the Xbox Showcase 2025 unleashed a wave of enthusiasm among fans. While many see it as a spiritual sequel to Black Ops 2, the Call of Duty community has more questions than answers. However, Activision has addressed some, and one of the most important is about the platforms: we already know it’s coming to PS4 and Xbox One.

Five years later, PS4 still has millions of players

If you’re reading this, you might be a PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S owner wanting Activision to move on from old consoles—or maybe you have a PS4 or Xbox One at home and still play some popular games. Black Ops 7 will arrive on all platforms, and Treyarch’s new FPS is expected to hit Switch 2 as well in 2025.

Activision has every reason not to leave behind the previous generation, and Sony’s latest stats prove it. As shown below, 2025 is the first year PS5 monthly active users surpass PS4’s; last year, the two were even. “It’s also the reason Black Ops 6 is on PS4 despite five years of PS5,” explains analyst Daniel Ahmad.

Millions of active users on PS4 every month

“Non-PS5 devices still have 46 million monthly active users, mostly engaged in gaming-as-a-service.” That’s the main reason why games are still released for the previous generation. As for Xbox One, the number is unknown, but there are likely tens of millions of active players. Even so, Sony’s own slides show PS5 users spend 26% more, making the new gen more profitable—but PS4 is still hugely relevant today.
