Diablo Immortal Is Bringing Back a Forgotten Class—And It Might Become Everyone’s Favorite!

It’s the least-loved class in Diablo 4, but after a total rework, the Druid could become your new favorite in Diablo Immortal. NetEase has completely overhauled one of the original game’s classes, bringing it to the controversial free-to-play Blizzard ARPG for the very first time.

There’s no denying that Diablo, one of the most legendary ARPG franchises ever, has seen its popularity wane in recent years. Even though the last couple of entries are solid in their own right, they just haven’t managed to deliver the kind of experience that keeps longtime fans happy. Thankfully, the developers aren’t giving up, continuing to roll out updates and creative new features that lure us back to the world of Sanctuary time and time again.

NetEase, the main developer behind Diablo Immortal, has just pulled back the curtain on the next big class update: the Druid. This is the very first time a “legacy” class from Diablo IV is making its way to the mobile version, and after seeing it in action—and speaking to a couple of the devs responsible—it’s clear the Druid’s fortunes are about to change. In Diablo 4, it’s far from the most popular class, but what’s coming in Immortal might just flip that on its head.

The Druid Comes to Immortal With a Fresh Toolkit

What makes the Diablo IV Druid stand out is the ability to shapeshift into ferocious beasts, switching up how you play the game entirely. While powerful, it’s not as flexible as some of the other classes—something Immortal’s redesign aims to fix from the ground up.

The first big change is a new resource system, Primal Power. It regenerates automatically and can be boosted with the right skills, letting the Druid transform into wild beasts, unlock new abilities, cast devastating spells, or even summon animal allies. Yes, you read that right: this is the first free-to-play class to have a dedicated NPC companion that fights alongside you, a clear sign that flexibility is front and center this time around.

If you’re a fan of mixing melee and ranged play, this class is going to be right up your alley, with shapeshifting and magic letting you switch tactics on the fly. The new Druid kit revolves around three pillars:

  • Wolf Form – a leaping, claw-focused attack that rips through anything in front of you.
  • Bear Form – for crushing big enemy swarms, dealing massive damage in an area and stunning foes in your path.
  • Summoning Flamestorms and Pillars of Thorns – the former brings a fiery vortex that scorches enemies for four seconds, while the latter pops up bramble-wrapped stone columns that knock back and injure anyone unlucky enough to get close.

On top of all that, the Druid can summon wolves, bears, and even create thorn bushes—each with their own unique AI, targeting systems, and crowd-control effects, freeing you up to snipe from a distance when the fight calls for it.

This new Druid isn’t just flexible—it’s fast. The developers made it much more agile than the Diablo IV version, letting players tailor their approach to every encounter. But the class isn’t just about raw power: lore-wise, the Druids are locked in a fierce battle with the Witches of Sharval, who want to dominate nature rather than balance with it.

“It’s harder to move an existing class than to create a new one.”

After checking out the Druid in action, we spoke to John Yoo, Lead Gameplay Designer, and Emil Salim, Lead Artist on Diablo Immortal. Yoo told us, “it was actually harder to port a known class than invent a brand new one.” Players already know the Druid from Diablo IV—and even more so from Diablo II: Lord of Destruction—so it had to feel both fresh and familiar at the same time.

According to Emil, making the Druid more dynamic, visually intense, and especially fast was a core priority—something that had to come across in both animation and story. Since the current game chapter is set during the Age of Madness, where the Druids face off against the Witches, it was the perfect moment for this new class to arrive.

The goal: bring back a piece of classic Diablo lore, but make it radically new and fun to play. Will more “legacy” classes show up? The team wouldn’t say, but admitted they’re open to ideas—maybe the Spiritualist or even seeing some Immortal-exclusive classes like the Tempestarian or Blood Knight make the jump to Diablo IV one day.

Whatever the future holds, Diablo Immortal players can start their journey with the Druid starting July 3, when the class is added via a major update.
