By now, it’s becoming hard to deny that a remake of 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is in development. The only mystery is when Ubisoft plans to make it official.
Earlier this month, a merchandise producer let it slip that something is brewing around Edward Kenway, the game’s protagonist. Now, Matt Ryan, the voice actor for Kenway, has made remarks during a fan encounter that practically confirm it. The clip, shared by AC fan Zephryss on Twitter, shows Ryan talking with a fan in a tone that leaves little room for doubt.
“Have you beat the game? Well, you may have to beat it again,” Ryan says. He then adds, “There’s a reason I’m saying that, but I can’t say anything.”
That sounds like as close to an announcement as we’re going to get—for now. Given that other voices have already hinted at Ubisoft’s plans involving one of the PS4 and Xbox One’s most iconic launch titles, it’s no longer just speculation.
Even Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has previously confirmed that multiple Assassin’s Creed remakes are in development. The company could have revealed this in June, but likely chose not to draw attention amid legal proceedings involving former execs accused of harassment.
The real question is when the remake will be released—and whether Ubisoft will avoid the long silence that plagued the Splinter Cell Remake after its reveal.
