MOVIE NEWS – Anyone who’s seen Airplane! or the original Naked Gun movies knows Leslie Nielsen was a one-of-a-kind comedy legend.

That’s why, in the new Naked Gun, Liam Neeson doesn’t even try to be the new Nielsen. “It wouldn’t be fair to compare their performances,” said writer-director Akiva Schaeffer in Empire. “Liam has a completely different skillset, and that’s what we worked with. When I started writing the script, a friend told me: your job is to find lines that sound funny coming out of Liam Neeson’s mouth. He nailed it.”

Neeson plays the legendary Frank Drebin’s (Nielsen) son, continuing the family tradition in every sense. The new Naked Gun isn’t just a parody of cop movies, but of the previous series itself—so the gags work on at least two levels.
