A massive open-world post-apocalyptic shooter will soon have thousands of new fans, all because STALKER 2 is heading to PS5. GSC Game World has confirmed the PS5 version will be released sometime in 2025.

Developing STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl has been nothing short of a nightmare for GSC Game World. On top of all the usual game dev headaches, the team has been working in war-torn Ukraine, causing repeated delays and enormous obstacles. The shooter first arrived on PC and Xbox Series X in November 2024, and though the devs originally ruled out a PlayStation release, they’ve now shocked everyone by confirming an official PS5 and PS5 Pro port.

As shown in the exclusive IGN trailer, GSC Game World is bringing STALKER 2 to the PlayStation ecosystem sometime in 2025. The team says the PS5 version will “fully leverage the DualSense controller’s capabilities, including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, to make the experience even more immersive”. There’s no word yet on the PS5 Pro version’s features, but it’s confirmed they’re hard at work bringing their post-apocalyptic open world to Sony hardware.

The news is a surprise for many, since GSC Game World stated in December 2024 that there were no plans for further ports. In 2021, Epic Games revealed during its legal dispute with Apple that STALKER 2 was a timed Xbox exclusive for three months. While many expected PlayStation news after the November 2024 launch, the developers insisted a month later: “we have only worked for Xbox and PC.” Now, the team has apparently spent the last few weeks preparing to take their experience beyond Microsoft’s console and PCs.

The Creators of STALKER 2 Are Talking to Netflix About a New Adaptation

It seems that GSC Game World wants to bring the STALKER universe to more than just consoles and computers. The studio has confirmed talks with Netflix about adapting their post-apocalyptic world for a non-gaming format. It’s unclear whether a movie or TV series is planned, but the franchise is aiming to make its mark in a brand-new ecosystem.
