With a new generation having grown up since the last parody movie craze—and plenty of new blockbusters to lampoon—the creators of the new Naked Gun felt it was time to revive the seemingly dead genre. The goal wasn’t to copy the original Leslie Nielsen films, but to give audiences a chance to laugh non-stop in theaters for two hours again.

The new Naked Gun stars Liam Neeson as the younger Detective Drebin. Thanks to the Taken franchise, he’s no stranger to action films—and he gets the unique chance to parody himself, too.
