Owners of the original, first-generation PlayStation 5 models have expressed their dissatisfaction after PlayStation excluded them from the Ghost of Yotei limited-edition console covers. Occasionally, the console maker announces new consoles and accessories with themed designs tied to major games, like the upcoming Ghost of Yotei exclusive.

As soon as PlayStation’s State of Play dedicated to Ghost of Yotei aired, the buzz around the new game quickly spread across the internet. Beyond the gameplay reveal, what really excited the community was the themed hardware, heavily inspired by Sucker Punch’s action-adventure game. Just as with previous limited edition consoles, like Spider-Man 2, the livestream revealed a unique Ghost of Yotei PS5 Slim console and covers for both the PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro. While owners of these newer models might be satisfied, original PS5 owners are left disappointed.

Ghost of Yotei Covers Leave Out Original PS5 Owners

On Reddit’s PlayStation subreddit, users criticized Sony for leaving out the first-generation PS5 models from the Ghost of Yotei limited-edition covers. Since these accessories are only available for the Slim and Pro versions, owners of the original PS5 have no way to personalize their consoles with the new designs. Multiple posts and comments called out Sony for ignoring the first model, even though many still use it. One user complained, “Sony is a ‘what have you bought from us lately’ company…” Another remarked that the company abandoned the first model as soon as possible. Some users recommended checking third-party vendors for Ghost of Yotei-themed covers.

Following the launch of the PS5 Slim in late 2023, Sony stopped producing the original model after about three years. Still, the original PS5 is widely supported and remains abundant on the reseller market. As a result, there’s still a sizable user base with original PS5s. Considering this, it feels harsh that Sony excludes these players from themed covers. In 2024, PlayStation’s 30th anniversary covers also weren’t made for the original model.

Currently, original PS5 owners have no official way to showcase Ghost of Yotei’s style on their consoles. However, they can still get the limited-edition DualSense controller, which follows the recent Death Stranding 2-themed version.
