It’s sad, but the studio behind Days Gone has only racked up flops since the release of the open-world zombie game. The only project to come out alive from Bend Studios since 2019 is the Days Gone remaster.
PlayStation’s exclusive lineup is packed with quality games, but some have left a deeper mark than others. Bend Studio’s post-apocalyptic open world adventure, Days Gone, launched in 2019, and despite a rough start, it quickly earned a special place in the hearts of many fans—fans who are still hoping for a sequel that seems destined never to happen. While PlayStation pushed Bend Studio down the games-as-a-service path, it’s now painfully clear that since 2019 the studio has only managed to rack up failures.
Bend Studio has canceled several projects since 2019
Just hours ago, a former developer’s LinkedIn profile—spotted by user bogorad222—revealed that Bend Studio has canceled a number of projects in recent years. Jacob Fieth, who spent over eight years at the studio, states that several unannounced titles were suspended. While it’s not clear what specific games he’s referring to, the details Fieth provides give us some clues.
The ex-designer explicitly mentions having worked on “multiple canceled or unannounced projects.” His responsibilities included creating open-world events, designing gameplay systems, and player mobility. This only reinforces the theory that Days Gone 2 was in the prototype phase for a while before PlayStation decided to pull the plug for good.
At the same time, it’s been known for months that Bend Studio spent years developing a games-as-a-service title, which PlayStation also canceled just weeks ago—wasting time, money, and resources, and leading to layoffs at the studio. Days Gone fans mourned this, feeling Sony made a major misstep by betting so heavily on service games.
There was even talk that Bend Studio was working on a new Uncharted game, but fans say a Days Gone 2 sequel would have been the right move to keep the studio from continuing to stumble. The truth is, Bend Studio has been plagued by failures ever since the open-world zombie game’s release. The only project to survive since 2019 is the Days Gone remaster—a version with tweaks and improvements, but one few players really asked for.
