Fallout 5: Has Development Been Greenlit by Microsoft? [VIDEO]

Bethesda Game Studios (BGS) may have already received the green light from Microsoft regarding what Todd Howard and his team will work on after The Elder Scrolls VI.

Now that Starfield has been released, the main focus for BGS is clearly The Elder Scrolls VI. After that, Fallout 5 will be next on Todd Howard’s agenda, according to Bethesda and Howard. Given how long it takes to make modern games, it’s likely that Howard will end his career with the release of Fallout 5.

Jez Corden, editor of Windows Central, said on the Xbox Two podcast that the first big step toward making Fallout 5 a reality has been taken: Microsoft has given the game the full green light. However, there’s not much clarity on who will lead the project. According to Corden, many Bethesda developers are working on additional Starfield DLC. The rest of the staff are working full steam ahead on The Elder Scrolls VI. Fallout 5 may be on the official development schedule, but it’s unclear when it will enter full development and who will lead it. The Elder Scrolls VI might not be released until fall 2027, and it could be another five years after that before Fallout 5 is released, if BGS is indeed making it. That might be too slow for Microsoft.

Howard and his team are the obvious guess, but who knows what state Bethesda and Microsoft will be in by the time Fallout 5 is fully in the studio’s core. For the time being, despite claims that the success of the TV series could push Fallout 5 up the priority list, it looks like it will be a good few years before Fallout 5 is released and on store shelves.
