MOVIE NEWS – “Don’t change a winning team!” That’s the old coach’s rule director Robert Eggers seems to be following, as Variety reports that his new film, Werwulf, will again star Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lili-Rose Depp from Nosferatu. Werwulf tells the story of the werewolf in a medieval setting, drawing on ancient myths much like the vampire legend in Nosferatu.
Another key member of the “winning team” is Sjón, Eggers’s co-writer on Werwulf and on The Northman. Sjón, whose full name is Sigurjon B. Sigurdsson, is an acclaimed Icelandic poet and author and a specialist in Scandinavian sagas—a talent that will surely be felt in Werwulf. He was even nominated for an Oscar for his work with Björk on the song from Lars von Trier’s Dancer in the Dark.
Another Hollywood is saying: “Kill Your Darlings”—don’t always cast your favorites, or it might flop. But that curse seems to skip the Scandinavians: Nosferatu earned $181.7 million on a $50 million budget, and critics loved it. Eggers can safely try his luck with the same team again.
