Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 Pro – Is Real Improvement Finally Coming? Fans Are Starting to Hope

CD Projekt has mostly ignored PS5 Pro owners when it comes to Cyberpunk 2077, but the latest update has finally given them something to cheer about. While there’s still no dedicated PS5 Pro patch, players have started to notice subtle performance upgrades since the arrival of update 2.3—though not everyone benefits equally.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been on a major redemption arc since its infamous launch, with CD Projekt RED gradually transforming it into the game fans had hoped for through steady updates. With the RPG now also coming to Switch 2, the Polish studio surprised returning Night City residents with a fresh dose of content and some under-the-radar technical improvements.

The new 2.3 patch is available across all platforms, bringing fresh vehicles and an auto-driving mode, but PS5 Pro owners are most excited about a hidden performance bump. CD Projekt hadn’t previously paid attention to Cyberpunk 2077’s PS5 Pro version, but it seems players are finally getting a bit of extra frame-rate love.

According to social media reports, Cyberpunk 2077’s two technical modes run better on the PS5 Pro: in Quality mode, players with VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and a 120Hz display can hit a stable 40 FPS, while Performance mode can reach up to 80 FPS. VRR syncs your display with the game’s frame output, reducing tearing and delivering a smoother experience.

The patch notes confirm VRR support for both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, so theoretically both platforms should benefit—though Reddit users note that Xbox improvements are inconsistent and can even introduce bugs. Beyond performance tweaks, update 2.3 adds three new cars and a motorcycle (unlocked via new missions), enhances Photo Mode, brings fresh HDR settings, and adds cutting-edge upscaling features like Intel XeSS 2.0 with Frame Generation and AMD FSR 4 support.
