iPhone 17: Will the Display Finally Be More Visible Outdoors?

TECH NEWS – The Cupertino-based company can finally compete with Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra in terms of display visibility on a few devices.

Samsung’s latest Galaxy S25 lineup has an anti-glare display coating that absorbs reflections in bright daylight, providing a smooth user experience. However, current iPhone 16 models are highly reflective, reflecting every ray of light and distorting the display. Apple is interested in bringing this technology to its flagship models this year, but we previously heard that the company was experiencing yield issues. It appears the anti-glare, scratch-resistant display layer will be available on two models: the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

According to MacRumors’ sources, Apple’s suppliers have resolved the yield issues associated with the new technology, meaning the facilities are ready for mass production. However, the standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will miss out this year. Given how much it improves the user experience, the company should introduce the technology on all four models. However, potentially, production will only be enough for the Pro models, so the rest will have to wait another year.

The anti-reflective coating is said to be more durable than the Ceramic Shield on the current iPhone 16 lineup. This means that the iPhone 17 Pro models will be more resistant to wear and tear over time. Apple has reportedly struggled to develop the anti-reflective coating for this year’s iPhone 17 lineup, raising questions about its availability at launch. The feature reportedly slowed down production. As the process improves, however, we can expect the anti-reflective coating to be available on iPhone 17 Pro models.

Apple recently introduced nano-textured glass to the Mac and iPad Pro lineups. This material hides reflections quite well. However, we suspect that the same technology won’t be available on the iPhone. However, the company will introduce a new method similar to that used on the Galaxy S25 Ultra that will offer a comparable experience.

Samsung uses Gorilla Glass Armor, which reduces glare by up to 75%. We expect to see similar results with the iPhone 17 Pro.
